We also chatted with CBRE executive managing director John Frager (with daughter Mollie on their way to a volleyball tournament in Columbus, Ohio). He manages an operation that encompasses some 250 real estate professionals in four offices in the La Jolla/UTC area, downtown, Carlsbad, and Temecula. In addition, John tells us several of CBRE's national niche practice groups are here, including golf and resort properties, seniors housing, religious facilities, and a recently recruited manufactured housing and RV parks group. The latter's getting a lot of investor attention as a long-term play that provides income, and is "developable in the future.? |
John and enterprise management director Samantha Martin. CBRE recently sold 15.7 acres for $20M to Biomed Realty for a build-to-suit for Advanced BioHealing. CBRE also just listed 400 Prospect, a 60-unit apartment complex right in the heart of La Jolla. John says integrated management—delivering all of its services to clients in a coordinated fashion—has been a big focus. He's bullish on San Diego, which continues to draw good talent because of the great weather and diverse industry base, plus a strong military presence. |
This is John's second stint with CBRE. The first began after he got out of the Navy and lasted for 16 years. During an eight-year hiatus, he served as president of BRE Commercial (now Cassidy Turley). Coming back in October 2010 gave John a chance to ?relearn CBRE because the company had changed a lot in the eight years I was gone,? mainly due to acquisitions. He spends the majority of his free time outside work with family. He's got three daughters, including two who have qualified for the nationals in volleyball (?Thank God for Title IX?) and all are tall, just like their 6-foot-seven dad. |
