San Diego International Airport: Improvement Update
Clark Pacific, one of the nation’s leading suppliers of architectural and structural pre-cast concrete solutions, furnished pre-cast architectural cladding for San Diego International Airport’s new $316M parking and rental car facility. The project is a JV of Austin/Sundt, with design by Damattiei Wong Architecture and Simon Wong Engineering. Clark Pacific president Don Clark says the project will greatly improve traffic flow at the airport and on neighboring thoroughfares. The structure totals 2M SF, houses 5,000 parking stalls, and serves as a central location for rental car customers. With this upgrade, one consolidated airport shuttle serves the new facility, versus many brand-specific shuttles that have traditionally served the airport. The structure will dramatically reduce rental car traffic on Harbor Drive and relieve congestion around the airport itself. Construction began in 2013 with completion expected in December 2015.
