Grand Pacific Plans Westin Hotel Expansion To Carlsbad Resort
Grand Pacific Resorts plans to expand its Marbrisa Carlsbad oceanfront resort (pictured), adding a 71-room Westin Hotel and 36 timeshare units to the Sheraton and Hilton timeshares already there.
These additions will bring the number of guest rooms available up to 780. The new hotel site is on a hilltop above existing timeshare buildings and between Cannon and Palomar Airport roads, next to Legoland and The Crossings golf course.
Trigild president/CEO Bill Hoffman, a consultant on the project, addressed concerns of the Carlsbad Planning Commission, which reviewed the project last month, about Native American artifacts on the site, traffic and parking.
He told commissioners that the design and construction team is working with Native tribes on this project, which is being constructed on caissons to minimize disturbance of artifacts. Plans call for 1,350 parking spaces, and Grand Pacific Resorts plans to add a 200-car parking garage if more parking is needed, according to the San Diego Union Tribune.
Construction is expected to commence this year, with completion in 2018. [SDUT]
