It's Tough to be a Life Sciences Landlord
Snapped at last week’s CREW San Diego luncheon at Estancia Hotel La Jolla: Project Management Advisors’ Crista Swan, who moderated, Ferguson Pape Baldwin Architects’ Ken Baldwin, BioMedVentures’ Nancy Hong, CBRE’s Ryan Egli and HCP Life Science Estate’s Mike Dorris. The topic at hand: life sciences, which occupies a significant place in San Diego commercial real estate. On the whole, it’s a good time to have space suitable for leasing to life science companies, but as the industry evolves and its space needs grow more complex, it’s a taller order for landlords to fill. (Classic story: life science company meets building, falls in love, needs to expand to fit in safety measures while studying deadly virus, they break up.)
