Bikeway Village Headed For Imperial Beach
A public-private partnership of the City of Imperial Beach and local developer Bikeway Village LLC has broken ground on Bikeway Village, a $6M project that will transform two underutilized city warehouse buildings to a trail-side rest stop for bikers, pedestrians and visitors using the 24-mile Bayshore Bikeway, which spans much of SD’s South Bay.
Located at 536 13th St, the new facility is at a key transition point of the bikeway and at the doorway to Imperial Beach. The first phase of the project includes a large outdoor deck with seating, restored native wetland plantings and related landscaping, as well as bicycle parking, a water bottle refill station, and public restrooms, according to the San Diego Business Journal.
Future plans for Bikeway Village, which was approved by local and state officials in 2013, include a bike shop, coffee shop and other elements serving bicycle enthusiasts. The developer is investing $4.3M in the project and the city $1.8M. The project was designed by Studio E Architects and LandLab. TTSA Contracting is construction manager on the project. [SDBJ]
