San Diego’s New Food Hall Is Open!
Two years in the making, the 25k SF Liberty Public Market, San Diego's first food emporium, officially opened yesterday at 2820 Historic Decatur Rd. Developed by Blue Ridge Hospitality, the massive project houses 27 food artisans—outposts of local food trucks, storefronts for farmers market vendors, existing eatery satellites and new food concepts. Such markets have grown in popularity, such as Napa's Oxbow Public Market or the Ports O' Call transformation in LA.
The $3M market provides lots of outdoor spaces, including multiple dining decks (pictured) and a 3k SF dog-friendly patio, according to San Diego Eater. The Mess Hall, the food hall's only full-service restaurant, opens tomorrow and other vendors later in the week. The restaurant is the brainchild of Blue Bridge executive chef Tim Kolanko and chef de cuisine Colin Murray and features an ever-changing menu prepared with ingredients from the market’s vendors. More vendors will be in an annex building adjacent to the main market. The market is open daily from 11am to 7pm.
