SeaWorld Plans Multimillion-Dollar Ocean Explorer Attraction

SeaWorld San Diego is creating an Ocean Explorer attraction that will break ground this summer and open in spring 2017. It will replace the current Animal Connections exhibit and the Circle of Flags on a three-acre site on the southeast side of the Mission Bay park.

While SeaWorld San Diego’s parent company, SeaWorld Entertainment, does not disclose cost for projects, park officials are referring to it as a multimillion-dollar attraction, reports the San Diego Business Journal. It will combine multiple aquariums with rides and digital technology in a three-minute "submarine ride."

The attraction is in addition to SeaWorld San Diego’s $100M Blue World orca habitat expansion, which will be completed in 2018. The Coastal Commission recently approved the expansion with the stipulation that the park stop breeding captive killer whales. [SDBJ]
