Fisher Builds Future Home For Booker T. Washington Community Center
Fisher Development is approaching the midpoint of its 20-month project at 800 Presidio Ave in San Francisco’s Western Addition.
The site is the future home of the Booker T. Washington Community Service Center and Affordable Housing Development, a five-story, 68k SF mixed-use building that will house a community center, gymnasium, parking, classrooms, daycare and 50 affordable apartments, half of which are dedicated to emancipated foster youth and the other half for residents who qualify as low income or very low income.
The project (shown above with workers laying concrete) has been in the works for nearly a decade, and construction is well underway. The folks at Booker T. are excited to see the new facility taking shape; it will begin serving this vulnerable population next summer.
Fisher is working with the staff and board of the Booker T. Washington Community Center, developers at Equity Community, those managing the residential units at The John Stewart Co, Perry Architects, the John Burton Foundation, and the Mayor’s Office of Housing and Community Development.
A rendering of the project is shown below.
“This project is particularly gratifying given the intense need for housing, programming and services for this vulnerable population,” says Fisher COO Tom Perko. Celebrating its 45th year in business, Fisher is a San Francisco-based general contractor that specializes in complex, urban core projects, including multifamily, education, civic, corporate interiors and retail.
