CONSTRUCTION STARTS
May 30, 2012
AMCAL Multi-Housing and Las Palmas Foundation began construction on MacArthur, a 32-unit low-income housing project in Oakland. Chairman Percy Vaz (snapped last Friday in LA) says this is AMCAL’s second project in Oakland after the completion of Brookfield Place a couple of years ago. |
MacArthur will boast a 1,000 SF community room, barbecue, tot lot, and 900 SF of retail, including a coffee shop and dining. Seven units will be set aside for families that are homeless (or at risk of it) and have a family member with severe mental illness. |
Percy tells us AMCAL’s planning a third project in Oakland and looking at other cities in the Bay Area. The company also has a 350-unit market-rate project next to a BART station in San Francisco and a 600-bed student housing project next to Cal State Monterey Bay (above) at the old Fort Ord, but that one doesn’t begin for at least a year. |
