HOUSTON GOES GRADUATE
August 27, 2012
HOUSTON—The University of Houston is a year away from a full graduate real estate program. We caught up with board of regents chairman Welcome Wilson Sr (posing with the UH cougar, who had no comment). He tells us the push to create the program began three years ago from within the local real estate community. Since, it’s raised $800k (near its $1M fundraising goal) and now has 12 courses and 44 students. That’s enough to offer an 18-credit hour real estate certificate. John Walsh, who’s heading up efforts and donating his salary back to the program, tells us it aims to have 60 students by September '13 and may increase to 15 courses. (Our suggestion for a design class using Lincoln Logs was met with polite resistance.) The ultimate goal is to offer a full master's in real estate; only 20 US universities do, and it’d require 100 students. |
