STRATEGIES FOR THE WORKPLACE
April 25, 2012
We also chatted this week with Colliers International director of advisory services Larry Matarazzi, who recently helped a technology firm change from a traditional desk layout to a series of task settings. “It was much more open, and collaboration was a critical part of it.” Larry tells us that most places were designed when people worked differently, and technology didn’t support the kinds of work we do today. Ten or 15 years ago, an employee used to be able to produce a piece of work. Today, solving a business problem involves “teams of people with different skills and knowledge bases.” In addition, he notes many companies are opting for benching solutions and task settings vs. cubicles, because more employees are using laptops instead of desktops, “so they’re free to work anywhere.” You can learn more tomorrow at the Marriott San Mateo, where Larry will be a panelist at Bisnow’s Silicon Valley Summit.
