Golden Gate University Selling Financial District Campus
Golden Gate University listed its campus in San Francisco’s Financial District for sale, along with another building owned by the university.
The property, at 536 Mission St., clocks in at 210K SF, and along with a 50K SF building behind the campus, the full property totals 260K SF. The university said it will remain in the city, but cites the growing shift to remote learning as one of the driving factors in listing this property. News of the listing was first reported by the San Francisco Business Times.
"As we emerge from the pandemic, we now have an opportunity to reimagine our Bay Area and global footprint in a post-pandemic world, including aligning our use of space with our needs," Golden Gate University President David Fike said in comments to the SFBT.
"In thinking strategically about the future, we are considering all possible options for GGU’s real estate holdings, including marketing our buildings on Mission and Jesse Streets."
The sale comes amid a growing trend in schools and universities selling off their buildings and land for redevelopment as they struggle with low enrollment and financial hardships.
