Bay Area Home To 746k Tech Jobs

The Bay Area now hosts 746,000 tech jobs, a number that surpasses the previous record established during the late '90s at the height of the dot-com bubble. Experts believe the tech sector will be resilient despite murmurs of a tech slowdown.
About 20% of payroll jobs in the region are in the tech sector, according to the San Jose Mercury News. The job growth presents cities across the Bay Area with a dilemma: While the jobs pay well and grow tax receipts, they also bring with them traffic congestion and stretch housing thin.
As companies expand across the region, these issues are expected to remain thorny. A survey earlier this year found one-third of the region's residents plan on moving elsewhere soon. [SJMN]
