Boutique Hotelier citizenM Plans To Build Union Square Hotel
Boutique hotelier citizenM wants to build an 11-story hotel in San Francisco’s Union Square. The 192-room hotel at 72 Ellis St. offers micro-hotel rooms of about 226 to 293 SF with a king-sized bed, rain showerhead and free WiFi and movies, SocketSite reports. The hotelier also plans to build in Boston, Hollywood, Seattle and New York's SoHo/Lower Eastside. It currently has a hotel in New York's Times Square.
The building, designed by Gensler, will offer a 332 SF open space on the roof and 8,390 SF of retail. A bakery and bar will offer grab-and-go items. Highgate Hotel originally planned to build a hotel on the site and planned to break ground in 2015, but the entitlements were left to expire, and citizenM later grabbed the site.
