Construction on what will be Mission Bay’s first full-service Marriott is underway. A 17-story, 250-room hotel will rise up across from the future Mission Rock development, the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Even though this hotel, designed by Hornberger + Worstell, will be the first full-service hotel to open on the south side of Mission Creek, it is not the only new hotel in the area. Hotel Via opened across from AT&T Park in 2017.

Hotel amenities will include meeting and event space, a rooftop lounge and garden as well as a café and art from local artists, according to Curbed San Francisco. The hotel is expected to open in 2020.

The future Marriott SoMa Mission Bay hotel will be on Block One, a triangular patch of land off Third and Channel streets across from Mission Rock, where the San Francisco Giants are developing a 28-acre office and residential project.

This block has long been set aside for a future hotel. Half the site is a condo development. The hotel segment has been on hold for six years until the neighborhood evolved. The neighborhood now has over 5,500 housing units, 4.4M SF of office, 41 acres of parks and a $1.5B hospital.
