Swiss Biotech Company Looking To Expand With Emeryville Life Sciences Lease
Swiss biotech manufacturer Lonza Group AG is closing in on a deal to lease space at the Atrium development in Emeryville, a move that would expand its Bay Area presence from its existing location in Hayward.
The company is in talks to lease 150K SF, the San Francisco Business Times first reported, citing anonymous sources. The Atrium, at 1650 65th St., is owned by PSAI Realty Partners.
Lonza has facilities across Europe, North America and Asia.
Longfellow Real Estate Partners signed a long-term ground lease with PSAI for the Atrium and adjacent parcels last year. The biotech developer plans to convert a 128K SF building into a life sciences facility.
In addition to the ground lease, Longfellow acquired a 2.27-acre property adjacent to the Atrium earlier this year, paying $36M for the 63K SF building at 6601 Shellmound St., according to the San Francisco Business Times.
Longfellow acquired the location from Griffin Capital and plans to convert it into a life sciences facility as well. In total, Longfellow is planning 200K SF of life sciences at the site.
