Checking In On Modernism Week
We spent Prez Day Weekend in Palm Springs (Prez Obama was also randomly here, via Air Force One). Palm Springs is in the midst of Modernism Week, an annual ode to midcentury architecture and design in the desert. The Oasis Tower by Lloyd Wright (Frank's son) is one stop of many along Palm Canyon Drive that highlights—and illuminates—midcentury buildings at night this week. Another is Victor Gruen Associates' nearby structure from 1959 (currently a BoA branch); Victor also designed the 29-story Fox Plaza at 1390 Market in S.F., finished in 1966. How's that for a Tuesday history lesson?
