Motel 6 Leaves Light on for Residential Conversion
We just learned the Motel 6 in Newark, above, has a new future. Hotel industry sources tell us Sand Hill Property Co just bought the hotel site from G6 Hospitality for redevelopment to residential. Sand Hill has owned the old Mervyn’s department store next door for several years and combined the two for a much larger parcel. It's unclear how many units will fit there.
On its website, Sand Hill describes the Mowry Crossing project as a redevelopment of an older shopping center, with 200k SF of new building area on 14 acres of land. The site is located on the major thoroughfare and right off the second busiest freeway off ramp in the East Bay, according to Sand Hill.
