More Affordable Housing Headed To This East Bay City
More affordable housing could be on its way to Hayward. The planning commission recently approved plans and permits for a 240-unit complex with a mix of 192 market-rate and 48 affordable units.
The Maple & Main mixed-use 3.4-acre project from Bay Area Property Developers and Klein Financial Corp of Palo Alto will include 5,571 SF of ground-floor retail and a 462-spot parking garage to be shared with residents and businesses, according to the East Bay Times.
The affordable units will be available to very low-income families earning no more than 50% of the median income in Alameda County, which is roughly $93,600 for a family of four. Monthly rents for these units range from $914 for a one-bedroom to $1,267 for three bedrooms. Market-rate apartments will offer rent from $2,205 for a studio up to $3,400 to $3,450 for three bedrooms.
Amenities for the five-story complex will include three open courtyards, a pool, a 3,600 SF clubhouse, fitness facilities and a 6,460 SF rooftop terrace. A shuttle for residents to and from Hayward BART also will be available to help reduce the traffic impact.
The site will include a renovated 48k SF medical office building. [EBT]
