A Fireplace First in S.F.
New Relic's new HQ at 188 Spear is a hot trendsetter, the first to install a gas fireplace in a high-rise Bay Area office building. The fast-growing software analytics company recently relocated and expanded in the South Financial District, where it occupies about 55k SF on the three top floors of the 12-story building. (The company almost tripled its number of employees in 2012 and was busting at the seams in 14k SF at 101 Second.) Cresa San Jose just wrapped up the construction of the project, which includes an in-house coffee shop complete with a full-time barista and complimentary beverages (sorry Starbucks).
New Relic liked that landlord Shorenstein had recently added four new floors to the now 220k SF building (hello, Bay Bridge views). Cresa’s project management group, co-led by Robin Weckesser (pictured), helped with team selection, design, and construction oversight. (The fireplace installation required approvals from the city and Shorenstein and careful venting and tapping of gas lines to ensure safety.) Relic inked their deal they had the option to expand into the 9th floor, which they took, and are now looking to sublease the 20k SF space out.
