Ghirardelli Chocolate Signs Lease At San Leandro Tech Campus
Ghirardelli Chocolate has leased an office at Westlake Realty Group’s recently built San Leandro Tech Campus Phase 2.
The size of the lease at the 132K SF six-story building was not disclosed by the developer, but San Francisco Business Times reports it was for the top floor, which is about 22K SF. Ghirardelli will join OSIsoft, which previously leased all of the 132K SF Phase 1 building in 2016.
“We’ve outgrown our current space and the new office will create a more open, collaborative environment and will make it easier for us to retain and recruit top talent,” Ghirardelli Chocolate Co. President and CEO Joel Burrows said in a statement.
Ghirardelli has been headquartered in San Leandro since the 1960s. It is expected to occupy its new office in early 2019.
The transit-oriented office is next to the Downtown San Leandro BART station and AC Transit and is part of a growing trend among developers to build more transit-oriented developments around the Bay Area as the region grapples with increased traffic congestion.
The developer also plans to build an additional office building during Phase 3 and about 200 units of residential with a 100K SF parking structure during Phase 4. The city of San Leandro previously approved the seven-story housing project.
The campus, designed by RMW architecture & interiors, is being developed by Westlake Urban, Westlake’s development company. JLL has been leasing and marketing the San Leandro Tech Campus.
Westlake Realty Group also recently signed a ground-floor lease for 1,800 SF with Blue Bottle Coffee at 909 Montgomery. The 75K SF building's office tenants include Jackson Square Aviation, Blum Capital, Madison Marquette and Brereton Architects. 909 Montgomery was Westlake Realty Group’s first commercial development when it was built in 1983.
