Developers To Pay For Art?

City Hall wants to put another proposition affecting development before voters. This time, city supervisors are asking San Franciscans if developers should pay for lost art space in the course of new construction.
The vote passed 7-4 with traditionally pro-development Supervisors Wiener, Tang, Cohen and Farrell voting against, reports Curbed. The bill calls for developers to replace 50% to 100% of the space artists would lose out on to display their work.
Some developers have made public art a cornerstone of their development projects (including Trinity Place's Venus, shown above). Voters will decide on the measure Nov. 8. [Curbed]
