UberEats App Brings Uber Tech To Food Delivery
Uber will now deliver food. The ride-hailing company launched a separate app last week called UberEats for on-demand food delivery in San Francisco. It marks the first time the ridesharing company has launched an app separate from the car service, according to the San Jose Mercury News. The program has been in pilot state since last year, with users accessing it through a tab in Uber's ridesharing app. Pictured is Uber co-founder Travis Kalanick.
While Uber has enjoyed great success in on-demand ridesharing services, some experts question the prospects of the delivery venture. Investor Ben Narasin of Canvas Ventures, for example, has called the field saturated and commoditized. He says it remains unclear what Uber’s differentiating advantage would be when competing against startups like GrubHub and DoorDash.
The service also is available in Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles and Toronto. [SJMN]
