Zella Apartments recently opened on Lower Queen Anne.

Pastakia + Associates recently completed Zella Apartments, a seven-story multifamily development at 429 2nd Ave. in lower Queen Anne. The 114K SF, 128-unit building features one- and two-bedroom units and 38 live/work spaces. So far, 62 units have been pre-leased.

Construction of Zella began two years before the adoption of Seattle’s Mandatory Housing Affordability legislation, but Pastakia + Associates voluntarily rezoned to allow for more height and density while adding units that support housing affordability.

In total, one-quarter of the building’s units are affordable for those in the 60% to 80% AMI bracket through the Multifamily Tax Exemption Program and the city of Seattle’s Housing and Livability Agenda program, also known as HALA.

“We’re thrilled to announce the completion of Zella Apartments,” Pastakia + Associates Managing Principal Tejal Pastakia said in a statement. “At Pastakia we are committed to creating purpose-filled developments — and every design at Zella was carefully chosen to provide an ideal feeling of peace and balance.”

There are 29 floor plans in the building, which is made of brick, metal panels, fiber cement planes and cedar siding. There is secure on-site parking that includes 52 below-grade parking stalls as well as parking spaces for 33 bicycles.
