Why? Because It's There
Lennar Multifamily Communities and Weingarten Realty have named their new West Seattle mixed-use project “The Whittaker,” after the famed mountaineer Jim Whittaker, who also happens to be a resident of West Seattle. The six-story mixed-use development at Fauntleroy Way SW and SW Alaska St is slated to break ground later this year and include about 350 apartment units and West Seattle’s first Whole Foods location. A member of the American Mount Everest Expedition in 1963, Whittaker was the first American to reach the summit of Mount Everest. He was also the first full-time employee of REI and became its CEO. (Which means he'd probably rather be camping right now.)
