Safeway To Add Apartments Atop Its Upper Queen Anne Store
Grocery giant Albertson's is doing something a little unusual with its 25K SF Safeway store at 2100 Queen Anne Ave. N in the Upper Queen Anne neighborhood of Seattle. Not only is the company expanding the store to 50K SF, it is adding apartments above it.
The development includes plans to add four stories of multifamily, though the number of units is still unspecified. Safeway will start the entitlement process this summer and anticipates beginning construction in the fall of 2018. Ankrom Moisan is the project architect and other members of the design team will be added soon.
"Since 1962 the store has undergone several significant remodels that were limited to our current space constraints," Safeway Seattle Division President Karl Schroeder said. "We are now committed to pursuing a redevelopment plan well-suited to both our neighbors and the location."
