Amazon To Occupy (Yet More) Seattle Office Buildings
Amazon swallowed up another building this week, so to speak: the online retail behemoth inked a 12-year lease for all 275k SF of office space at Westlake Terry building in South Lake Union. Currently Microsoft's only Seattle office, as well as Group Health Cooperative, occupy the space. Kilroy Realty owns the buildings.
Microsoft will leave the building when its lease is up in 2019, either to a new Seattle location or not. Group Health is moving to a new facility in Renton, and should complete the transition by next summer, the Puget Sound Business Journal reports.
The new lease is a small fraction of the overall Amazon pie in Seattle. The retailer occupies or had plans to build and lease a total of 9.3M SF in the city, and will have at least 12M SF of office space in the Puget Sound region by 2022, unless it decides it needs even more. [PSBJ]
