Macy's Location In Everett Gets The Ax
One of the 100 locations that Macy's is closing this year is at Everett Mall. The department store, which occupies 133k SF at that property, has been there for almost 40 years, opening only a few years after the mall itself. The Puget Sound Business Journal cited a number of reasons for the closure of so many department stores: Amazon; the strong dollar keeping foreign tourists away; and warmer than normal winters.
The Macy's at the Everett Mall was originally The Bon Marché, which moved from Downtown Everett in 1977. Federated Department Stores swallowed Bon Marché in the early 1990s, and eventually the name disappeared. The property has been known as Macy's since 2006. The other Macy’s store in Washington state that will be shuttered soon is in Kelso, at Three Rivers Mall, affecting 57 jobs there.
