25 Years Later, St. James Park Project Moves Forward
A historic corner of Downtown San Jose adjacent to St. James Park will finally get the project the city has been waiting for. The City Council has approved BSB's $150M Park View Towers, which is set to break ground next year.
Park View Towers will include two high-rises consisting of 214 units and six townhomes. In addition, BSB will rehab the historic First Church of Christ Scientist for commercial use. Here are BSB president Case Swenson and chairman Barry Swenson on a stroll.
The 1.5-acre site was targeted by the former Redevelopment Agency more than 25 years ago as a key block to breathe new life into the historic district. When Barry started acquiring the land, San Jose was a different kind of city, and its height was far from the norm.
