The Sobrato Organization received a rare approval for a 50-unit market-rate rental project in Palo Alto. The City Council, which is not known for approving much housing, gave the project a thumbs-up Oct. 23, The Mercury News reports. The project, designed by Steinberg Architects, is at 3001 El Camino Real and will consist of two buildings. One four-story building will include 20K SF of ground-floor retail and 30 units. The second three-story building will have 20 units.

The average apartment size will be 750 SF and units will range from studios to two-bedroom apartments. There also will be a large 1,495 SF three-bedroom unit. Studio apartments will have an average size of 550 SF.
