49ers Fans Get Fit At New Gym Concept
The San Francisco 49ers are capitalizing on the growth of specialized fitness gyms with the introduction of the team's first branded gym, dubbed 49ers Fit, which will open its first location in San Jose on Dec. 1.
The NFL team plans to expand the flagship fitness and recovery concept at Westgate Center Outlet Mall to other locations across the Bay Area. The Bay Area has seen the growth of specialized gyms of all sizes, including climbing gyms, rowing gyms and boxing gyms.
The 49ers Fit concept for the full-service fitness and recovery center was developed over two years with 49ers Fit Chairman Mark Mastrov, founder of M6 Football and 24 Hour Fitness. In other markets, Mastrov has engaged other NFL teams in the fitness space, including Cowboys Fit centers in Texas and Bears Fit in Chicago, Forbes reports.
The first 49ers Fit location has roughly 36,500 SF with 49ers-branded strength and conditioning equipment, a recovery lounge, a large indoor turf training field and boutique-style group and high intensity interval training classes, according to the team.
The team held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Nov. 15 with plans to open this week, but the Northern California wildfires have meant a delay in having PG&E finalize power to the gym, creating a slight delay in the open date.
The 40-yard turf area can be used for sprint work and group training, while other areas are dedicated to strength training, cardio, free weights, power training and group fitness classes. Recovery services include cryotherapy, NormaTec equipment and hydromassages.
The center boasts some of the same fitness equipment and advanced recovery treatments used by 49ers players. Gym members will have access to fitness programs developed by the 49ers strength and conditioning team.
Technology on-site will allow gym members to track their workouts and wirelessly connect to the gym's audio and video feeds. Other amenities include dry saunas and steam rooms, a kids' club and a 49ers Team Store with fitness apparel.
“We’re proud of the dynamic, comprehensive fitness and recovery experience that 49ers Fit offers to fitness enthusiasts of all levels," 49ers President Al Guido said in a statement.
