Casino For Vaughan?
The City of Vaughan has said yes to hosting a GTA casino. Council there met Wednesday, and after an eight-hour meeting, will now notify the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corp of its interest. Markham said no. And of course, so did Toronto city council, voting against a downtown casino and expansion of Woodbine racetrack. (We only got one out of the trifecta.) Vaughan is looking beyond the arguments about the adverse affects of gambling and is zeroing in on hosting fees--potentially north of $30M--millions in property taxes, and thousands of permanent and construction jobs. Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua has said that the project will not be a stand-alone casino.
