Developer Announces Hamilton Expansion

The City of Hamilton, as we've reported, has been aggressively promoting itself as more than Steeltown, an expanding municipality looking to attract investment. Its newest sign of growth: Hi-Rise Group, the developer behind the restoration of the 90-year-old Lister Building (above), will build a $35M mixed-use project on the site next door. On the James Street North site, the facade of the William Thomas Building, built in 1855, had to be demolished. But each brick was numbered and catalogued so the facade could be recreated, and it'll be part of a structure that will house four floors of retail and office space, with 16 floors of residential going on top of that. Construction will start in a year.
