Innovation Future of Waterfront
The future cluster of high-tech and digital-media companies along the city's waterfront took a leap forward last year with the establishment of a Waterfront Innovation Centre in East Bayfront, joining Corus Entertainment and George Brown College down by the water. "That was the most interesting development for us," Waterfront Toronto CEO John Campbell tells us. Waterfront Toronto issued a RFQ in October seeking a visionary development partner to design, finance, construct, lease, and operate the centre.
The centre will feature 350k SF of commercial space, building on millions of dollars of investment in infrastructure and development on the waterfront including Canada's first open-access, ultra high-speed broadband network. (Finally, a place to relax and stalk high school classmates on Facebook at max speed.) Here, John is with IBM's John Longbottom and Ralph Chapman during the announcement that Waterfront Toronto would be teaming with IBM on the creation of a community portal and platform.
