What Makes Dufferin Mall Special?

When H&R REIT topped KingSett's Primaris bid, a clause ensured H&R could acquire Dufferin Mall at a discount should the takeover fail. Then RioCan CEO Ed Sonshine told us last week, as part of KingSett's consortium, that Dufferin Mall was the Primaris property he wanted most. Why the love for this not-so fancy 567k SF, 130-store mall? "They do moderately priced fast fashion, so it's no surprise Dufferin does well," says Colliers retail group manager Mary Mowbray, adding that Dufferin benefits from surrounding urban density. At about 200 metres from the Bloor subway and anchored by Walmart, Toys 'R' Us, H&M, and Winners, Dufferin does huge walk-up and transit traffic.
