Toronto Mixed-Use

Manulife Real Estate plans a $100M redevelopment of Manulife Centre, adding 35k SF of new retail to the landmark complex and the first Canadian location for Italian-food market Eataly. The project, slated to start early next year, will involve a total overhaul of the centre’s exterior, adding a glass façade and expanding the retail podium (as seen above). The interior will be reconfigured, too, with renos to several key tenant spaces. Manulife president/CEO Kevin Adolphe says the property’s transformation and the modernization at the corner of Bloor and Bay will build on “tremendous changes taking place in Yorkville.”

Here’s a sneak peek at Eataly, a 50k SF, three-storey space that’ll anchor the new-look Manulife Centre with a mix of markets, restaurants and eateries. The company is partnering with Selfridges Group and Terroni Restaurants for its Canadian debut, “leveraging local expertise to develop a truly distinct Toronto Eataly experience.” Eataly has 30 locations in the US, Italy, Japan, Dubai, Turkey and Brazil. It joins Manulife Centre’s roster of 40-plus retailers, including Cineplex, Bloor Street Market, Indigo, William Ashley, BMO, Bay Bloor Radio and Birks. The redevelopment is to be completed by 2019.
