6 Office Projects That Are Rockin' the Toronto Suburbs
While downtown seems to get all the attention when it comes to new office projects, there’s plenty of exciting action farther afield in the GTA. Here are six developments bringing buzz to the burbs.
1. Gateway Meadowvale
Location: 2777 & 2727 Meadowpine Blvd, Mississauga
Developer: Carttera Private Equities
Size: 270k SF in two office buildings on a 12.5-acre site.
Buzz: A spec build, Gateway Meadowvale is the third office project Carttera’s done in Meadowvale; it also developed 7110 West Credit Ave and 1919 Minnesota Ct, DuPont Canada's HQ. Both were NAIOP Office Developments of the Year.
2. KPMG Tower
Location: Highway 400 and Highway 407, Vaughan
Developer: SmartREIT
Size: 15-storey building with 300k SF of office, 65k SF of retail/amenities.
Buzz: First building in a 100-acre plan that calls for 10M SF of res, 4M SF of office and 2M SF of retail. The building will have direct underground connection to a new TTC subway station and York Region Rapid Transit bus terminal.
3. Consilium Place
Location: Highway 401 and McCowan Road, Scarborough
Developer: Kevric Real Estate Corp
Size: 3 office towers, 900k SF
Buzz: In addition to this big injection of new office space, Kevric is revamping Consilium Place's three existing office towers. Longer-term, it plans a mixed-use complex on adjacent land with a res tower, hotel and commercial space.
4. 2201 Bristol Circle
Location: Oakville
Developer: Westbury International
Size: 7-storey, 219k SF office building
Buzz: Located within Winston Business Park, this LEED-seeking building is the latest addition to Westbury’s portfolio of 900k SF of office space in Oakville and Burlington. It’s slated for a Q1 2016 delivery.
5. Pat Bayly Square
Location: Ajax
Developer: Medallion Developments
Size: Tower A is 25 storeys, with 272 residential units and two floors of office (31k SF), plus ground-floor commercial.
Buzz: Not a huge infusion of new office space, but it's part of Durham Region’s largest-ever mixed-use project, a three-phase development that’ll also include 1,750 residential units and retail space, plus a new civic square.
6. First Meadowvale Centre Phase 3
Location: 2476 Argentia Rd, Mississauga
Developers: First Gulf, Sun Life Financial
Size: Four storeys, 100k SF
Buzz: Targeting LEED Gold, the building is the latest phase of a larger office campus that'll include four developments. FMC3 has a walkway, developed by First Gulf with Metrolinx, connecting to Meadowvale GO Transit station.
