TD Centre Saved $300K in Energy Last Year. Here's How
Toronto-Dominion Centre slashed energy consumption by nearly 7% in 2014, saving $300k in electricity costs. A new report on sustainability at TD Centre notes that energy savings came partly via retrofit projects and capital upgrades; for example, stairwell lights were replaced in all six towers at the iconic office complex, with sensors and dimmers installed, resulting in an annual cost savings of $65k. Sub-metering also played a part, giving TD Centre tenants the ability to monitor consumption and practice conservation. All TD Centre towers are certified LEED EB Gold or Platinum.
At a time of “significant competition and growing business expectations,” managing TD Centre through a “strong sustainability lens” not only benefits the planet and people, it also gives a competitive advantage to tenants and owner Cadillac Fairview, the complex's GM, David Hoffman, noted in the report. TD Centre’s sustainability success can be attributed to Cadillac's Green at Work program, which just won the NAIOP REX Green Award of the Year. The program, launched in 2008, has delivered 42% water reduction and 79% waste reduction at TD Centre in five years.
