Alimentation Couche-Tard Buys CST Brands, Adding 2,000 Stores
Quebec’s Alimentation Couche-Tard is buying CST Brands, the fourth-largest convenience and fuel retail operator in the US, for US$4.4B. Texas-based CST, whose CEO Kim Lubel is seen above, has more than 2,000 stores in the US and Eastern Canada.
The deal, the biggest ever for Couche-Tard, Canada’s largest convenience store operator, gives the owner of Mac’s, Couche-Tard and Circle K a network of 14,000 stores and strengthens its position in the US Southwest, Southeast and New York. The company plans to sell most of CST's assets in Canada, including commercial and home energy, to Parkland Fuel Corp, for US$70M.
