Canada Wins 4 International TOBYs in Best Outing Ever
It was a very happy early Canada Day at the BOMA International Convention & Expo in Los Angeles Tuesday, where BOMA Canada president Benjamin Shinewald tells us Canada won four Outstanding Building of the Year (TOBY) awards, “breaking a multi-year dry spell and delighting the entire Canadian delegation.” He notes the haul included the first-ever TOBY for retail, a new category BOMA Canada had championed. The award went to Bramalea City Centre, a 1.7M SF mall owned and managed by Morguard Investments, anchored by Best Buy, Hudson’s Bay, Metro and Sears, among its 340 retailers. And here’s the gang from 20 Queen Street West, TOBY winner in the 500k SF to 1M SF category (the property's owned by ONTREA Inc and managed by Cadillac Fairview). The Earth Award went to Ottawa's World Exchange Plaza (owned by bcIMC Realty Corp; managed by Bentall Kennedy), and Calgary's Rangewinds Business Park (owned by Sun Life Assurance Co and managed by Bentall Kennedy) won for best Industrial Office Building. BOMA Canada submitted eight projects for consideration, Benjamin says, “so we batted .500 in what was probably our most successful BOMA International outing ever.”
