Eateries Clamour For Rare Space
The Harbour Centre Food Court redevelopment is now 100% pre-leased (there's barely enough room to store your lunch)--and the quick pace of deals hasn't surprised Colliers Associate VP Sherman Scott, since it's a rare opportunity for tenants.
Sherman quarterbacked the leasing efforts with a team that included Cyndi Dorland. "It is not very often that companies get to be part of a new project in downtown Vancouver," he tells us. "Not a lot of new food courts are opening in the downtown." Harbour Centre underwent a $1.5M exterior renovation and a $4.5M renovation to the food court area. (Does this mean we can't sell peanut butter and jelly sandwiches out of a van anymore?)
Sherman says he began the leasing process back in January at the ICSC shopping centre conference in Whistler. In the end, 14 companies did pre-lease deals to be involved in the space. All of the old leases had been terminated and Sherman's team started from scratch. The food court opens at the end of this year with eateries like Starbucks, Fatburger, Thai Express, and Quiznos. (The ghost employees and customers will be replaced with real people.)
