Tech Demand Gaining On Government Deals

Office tenant demand in Greater Victoria is changing, according to Colliers research analyst Emily Barz (left, shown here with colleagues in a corporate challenge event this past summer). Colliers just issued a report analyzing the market, based on leasing business done by the company over the past 12 months. Government still accounts for 34% of total tenant demand, followed by technology and digital media (16%) But Emily tells us that split is changing: Both sectors did almost the same number of new deals. "Government's introduction of downsizing and desk sharing to make more efficient use of space, along with the increase of space the private sector occupies, has contributed to a decline in government office market share."
