Target's Demise Greatly Exaggerated
It has been a troubling year for Target Canada, with a roll-out that cost the company close to $1B, and yesterday's news that Target CEO Gregg Steinhafel was stepping down, in light of the Canadian rollout and a crippling data breach hasn't stopped the negative talk about Target in Canada. Not so fast, says retail strategist David Ian Gray, from DIG360 Consulting. "The unreal scale of zero to 124 stores in one year was risky," he says. "Its performance to date is a major concern at HQ, but the immediate focus will be on improvement, not retreat." (Does that make Target an underdog story?)
