B.C. Leads the Nation in Retail Sales

Placeholder

B.C. “leapt out of the gate” with retail sales in early 2015, leading the nation with Q1 year-over-year sales growth of nearly 8%, according to a new report from Colliers. The province recorded a total of over $66.4B in retail sales last year, second nationwide behind Alberta ($78.7B). But a dramatic drop in oil prices is taking a serious toll on Wild Rose Country’s consumer confidence. Alberta retail sales in Q1 dropped by nearly 3% year over year. But growth in exports spurred by a strengthening US economy has helped B.C. remain buoyant, as has the weaker dollar, which is keeping shoppers north of the border.
