MEC’s Head Office Is B.C.’s First ‘Salmon-Safe’ Urban Site
Mountain Equipment Co-op’s new False Creek Flats office campus has been certified B.C.’s first Salmon-Safe urban site. MEC got the certification from the Fraser Basin Council and Pacific Salmon Foundation for progressive land and water management practices at its state-of-the-art HQ, including on-site rainwater capture and garden swales that filter stormwater. Seen above are MEC’s Brent Dallimore, Sandy Treagus, Jeff Bonhen and Vanadis Oviedo with Fraser Basin Council’s Amy Greenwood. More than 10,000 acres of agricultural land in B.C. is certified Salmon-Safe; program organizers hope MEC’s example raises the program’s profile for development in urban areas.
