PODCAST: Listen To Bisnow's 'Let's Have A Drink' D.C.: APAH CEO Nina Janopaul
Bisnow has a new podcast series, "Let’s Have A Drink," where we sit down with the personalities who shape Washington, D.C., real estate — one of the most complex and affluent markets in the country. Hosted by Bisnow East Coast Editor Ethan Rothstein, we examine the deals, the disappointments and, of course, drinks of choice. You can subscribe on iTunes, Spotify or listen on SoundCloud.
In our fifth episode, we sit down with Nina Janopaul, the CEO of the Arlington Partnership for Affordable Housing, at the bar at Le Meridien, a hotel in Arlington’s Rosslyn neighborhood. We talk about how she became one of the D.C. area's most prolific affordable housing developers, why she thinks APAH's model can work beyond Arlington, and her fears — and hopes — about Amazon HQ2's impact.
“The thing I like about the Amazon announcement, here, is that affordable housing came with it,” she said on the podcast, though she added the example of homelessness and inequality in San Francisco makes her nervous.
“I would say that affordable housing is getting more play since the Amazon announcement than it has ever gotten … It's a good catalyst in that sense. It started a conversation that maybe we would have ignored if it had just happened on this same gradual trajectory we've been on.”
