Armed With An App
If you see an ASAE member looking at his phone during this year’s Capitol Hill fly-in, don’t assume he's just checking Facebook. The association is rolling out an app for members to directly reach legislators. ASAE public policy director Chris Vest, trying out the app Monday, says it'll have talking points on major policy issues to discuss with legislators during the late March fly-in. The association will continue pushing members to use the app for more grassroots advocacy and hopefully encourage more of its 21,000 members to use it regularly. (If all goes well, Facebook will give them $16B for it. If it goes poorly, Facebook will probably still give them $8B.)
Chris says associations are increasingly using mobile platforms, since many ASAE members spend lots of time away from their desks. The association, which hired DC-based Beekeeper Group to build the app, will continue to send its members tailored messages on public policy issues that they can automatically send to members of Congress. Chris says tax reform might be one of the first big pieces of legislation where ASAE members can use the app.
