New Fashion Leader
Chalk up a fourth top role for veteran Juanita Duggan: new head of the American Apparel & Footwear Association.
AAFA has 500 corporate members and represents 1,000 brands. At Phillip Morris during the tobacco settlement and most recently as a policy director for Brownstein Hyatt, Juanita says she was attracted to the role because of its worldwide economic impact and strong board. She’ll focus on growing membership, political presence, and global influence.
The 22-person association closely monitors trade agreements, consumer product safety, worker safety, and social responsibility. Juanita, who ran the American Forest & Paper Association, the Wine & Spirits Wholesalers of America, and worked as a special assistant to the President during the Reagan and Bush (41) administrations, hails from Mobile, Ala., and came to DC for a Georgetown education. When she’s not running associations, she exercises, entertains, and spends time with her two grown children. Best lesson: Don’t take things too personally.
