Association Opposes Big Industry Acquisition
The American Hotel & Lodging Association applauded a letter from several of its members to the Justice Department yesterday, opposing Expedia’s proposed $1.3B acquisition of Orbitz. The association argues that consumers would have less choice, competition could drop, and small and independent hotels could suffer. One of the biggest concerns is how small lodging businesses will deal with Expedia’s potentially higher commission rates. AH&LA president Katherine Lugar says it’s encouraging that so many lodging groups are speaking out.
