Notable Gifts To Universities

Placeholder

Universities pulled in millions in gifts so far this year, ranging from $100M to the University of Miami to $3.5M for the University of Chicago. The $100M gift to the University of Miami came from Patricia and Phillip Frost, a physician who led pharmaceutical companies throughout his career. It will go toward applied sciences and engineering, according to a roundup of notable gifts by the Chronicle of Philanthropy. Dr. Frost was also chairman of the Department of Dermatology at Mt. Sinai Medical Center of Greater Miami. The Frosts already gave the university $33M in 2003 for the Phillip and Patricia Frost School of Music. [COP]
